After the fun we had driving in Latvia, we were quite nervous about driving in Poland, having heard various reports about driving there. Luckily it was a lot better - yes there was some aggressive driving, but no more than you'd see in the UK a lot of the time.
It was a long day of travel today, but having set off quite early from Kaunas, we'd made good progress by lunchtime, when we stopped at a Polish supermarket. We had no zloty, so it was a good chance to take some out from a cashpoint, have a comfort stop, and explore the range of products inside.
As usual with our first supermarket shop in a country, there was a lot of time spent eyeing up the things we hadn't seen before, but we managed to pick up some lunch, a few beers, and the Polish version of kvass, which Felix is now addicted to!
Then it was an uneventful second half of the journey, arriving at our hotel at about 4.30pm, having gained an hour due to the time difference.
When I picked our destination, it was a random stop on the route between Lithuania and Slovakia - Poland is a very big place so I didn't want to deviate too far from our route. We were delighted to find though that Konstancin-Jeziorna is a lovely spa town with lots of big, beautiful mansions, and a lovely park with a river running through it.
The hotel itself was lovely - a very classy affair with a useful fridge, nice sized rooms and as it turned out, a wonderful breakfast the next day. After an hour or so settling in, we set out to find a kebab shop we found on Google for tea, for what we hoped would be an inexpensive meal.
Waking through the park, the kids stopped for the exercise machines, and we saw some playful red squirrels darting around. When we finally arrived at the kebab shop, our lack of Polish proved a slight problem, but we managed to point and gesture our way through and the staff were extremely helpful.
In the end we had a lovely meal there including drinks (beers for the adults), large portions and even a couple of massive baklava for less than £25, all very tasty. Back through the park there was a lovely sunset to enjoy and we took a slightly longer route back to the hotel to gawk at some more of the mansions.
