Rovaniemi

To the Arctic Circle!

Just a short one today! We woke up to the same amazing view over the lake that we did yesterday. We've absolutely loved this cabin, although it has been a bit of a pain having the toilet/shower in a separate cabin. It's low key but very cosy and we'd love to have something similar on our plot by the river at home :)

The weather was pretty hot today - we seem to have been on a diet of either sunshine or thunderstorms for most of our tour, and the cooler temperatures we were expecting as we headed north didn't materialise, so by the time we got to Rovaniemi, which sits astride the Arctic Circle, it was still 22 degrees!

Still the journey was smooth and pleasant, notwithstanding the 'interesting' driving seen once we crossed the Finnish border, and we arrived at our new accommodation at 5pm, having lost an hour due to crossing timezones. It's extremely comfortable, well appointed and luxurious here, but I'm coming to realise that I'm definitely a country girl at heart and nature is what gets me buzzing!

Because of the time difference, from tomorrow we'll be attempting to do our excursions in the first part of the day and work later on rather than the other way around, it will be interesting to see how that pans out! The biggest challenge I think will be getting the kids out of bed in the morning, but we have a few days of fun activities planned in and around Rovaniemi, which is otherwise known as Santa Town, so hopefully that will be a good incentive!

Also, happy Father's day to my father, father in law and James - the kids (and me!) tried to give him a bit of a break today, but it was hard when we spent most of the day driving! He's yet to buy his gift of choice, apparently having had one in most houses we've been in in Northern Europe, he wants a shoe horn... Getting old maybe James? :D
