Another lazy Sunday

Sunday is our traditional day of rest, and as usual we'd decided to take it easy today, which meant we stayed in until after lunch and headed out in the theoretically cooler afternoon. We knew we were due a thunderstorm, but the plan was just to walk down to the town so we hoped we could shelter somewhere if needed.

We could hear the rumbles of thunder as we walked down the very steep hill. Me and Lowenna are really quite nervous about thunder and lightning but it's been a fairly persistent feature of our travels!

It was getting closer as we approached the town centre, slowed down by Felix who was intent on taking photos. I'd managed to patch up my phone camera with the aid of sellotape, so I was also keen to take photos, but not in those conditions!

The town was looking very sleepy as we approached and we were a bit concerned that nothing would be open, but we needn't have worried, as when we got to the town square there was plenty open, including a gelateria!

Refreshed by our ice creams, we walked to the centre, only for the storm to break. I wasn't comfortable in the open with the rain lashing down and the lightning getting closer, so after identifying the place we were heading for dinner, we found a bar and settled in there with a beer for James, cafe con panna for me and cioccolata con panna for the kids - thick melted chocolate with whipped cream on top, Lowenna's favourite so far!

The storm passed after a while, so rather than wait in the stifling bar, we decided on a quick walk around the town. We found the river, and Jowan was determined to go for another paddle despite the fact that by now the weather was quite cool. James and Felix stacked rocks while the younger two paddled, and then it was time to head off for pizza.

The pizza was delicious, but I think the highlight of the meal was probably the desserts - tiramisu, tartufo, deli ia di limone and profiteroles. Felix oddly opted for another glass of Coke!

Then back up the hill, thankfully with only distant rumbles of thunder, for a quiet evening, the best part of which was probably seeing fireflies off the balcony!
