Innsbruck was our place of go to today. Being one of the biggest cities within Austria. I believe it a better place though because of its name. Must more feasible than “Vienna". The name comes from the German word bruck, meaning bridge. Therefore it is the bridge for the river Inn which it sits upon. (Carrying glacial melt from the stubai glechter) it remains cool throughout therefore. The drive took us to the other end of the valley at a toll booth. We had to pay 3 euros for a stretch of road about 10k but shortened the journey much. Innsbruck looked beautiful lying underneath a towering mountain ridge 1,500 metres above it. Induing the city was a ski jump, Innsbruck is very famous for its extreme sports because of its extreme terrain. Parking was difficult due to my dad's inconsistent google maps breakdown. An underground carpark had to make do with the city centre not drivable. So we walked and walked and walked for miles on end as we always do when a city is about. I was trying to edge my mum and dad about getting to the slopestyle jumps, that were super difficult to find (thanks fmb and crankworx!). We were dying to get a gelaterie for the 8th time in a week. Prices were uncommon throughout my family with our overdue but not irrational sense of prices. It was 34° to be fair. The old town really was full of culture which I didn't expect from such a forward thinking place. Mind the house prices definitely aren't. I thought the bikepark Innsbruck was at the bottom of this exceptional mountain using the seegrube gondola.
After our initial meander towards this lift all siblings and parents gave up hope so I was forced to walk back. The city centre had WiFi which became useful except for the fact it wouldn't let my phone on it. Nevertheless my parents discovered it was 8 km out of the city. A definite no go for walking. And bikepark Innsbruck was there too! In a place called mutters. How dare they name this crankworx innsbruck. Mutters should be crowned a city for hosting this event. So we walked on and decided it would be a car trip there. Onwards to the gelaterie we went. I problematically chose mango at my dispense it was rather nice. We finished eating them ice creams but our walking wasn't done just yet. A park was set as our walking destination but never even made it there when we came across a second hand shop. Much better quality than the ones found in Cornwall. Yet no cameras or bikes. That was finally our day in Innsbruck done. Time for mutters. It was a little suscepting when we were only a couple hundred metres away and it wasn't insight. Yet I then saw a landing for a jump and a run off. Fueling my desperation we slowly turned the corner to see a full blown diamond fmb world tour event track. But I was disappointed to see how short it was.
We parked up to get a closer look and see just how large these crankworks jumps just are. The speed and style just blew my mind with its technicalities. The slopestyle didn't live up to my expectations though I'm sure if Nicholi Rogatkin rode it he'd put up a show. He pulled a 1080 on one of the jumps and a cork 720 on the boner log. No wonder his last name autocorrects to rotation. Yeah so he won that event. Tomas lemoine won the speed and style in a incredibly sketchy way. Now the real speed demons are met within the pump track that has had it own comp (world's.)
Out of the gate you can't pedal (obviously) but jumps get squashed, doubles get sent. But when I ride it. Tables get sent. Doubles get squashed (as in the I semi hit the roller to hump).
I got my bike out so I could send it. It's not linkable and when you get to the end it's quite a push up to get to the start. Unfortunately a thunderstorm cut my time short. But we had a good 30 mins there. Our bike putting back has now been shortened from 15 mins at the start of our trip to a measly 5mins both ways. People on their downhill bikes must have looked at me weird getting the bikes out when the gondola closed in half an hour.
I told my dad we wouldn't see a drip of rain and I was true and they owe me 50 cents. I semi put my bike back so I could go up a gondola at a place called elfer with 800 metres of descent. That's descent.
Our day wasn't over yet because a lake obviously had to be visited. Stuff there was a park, a run round the lake and the lake itself. There was a roped raft that had a good session from us. There we ate bacon sandwiches with a view of a warm lake. Then we went home ready for the glacier lift accessed up and a hike down the mountain (1200m)
